One of the biggest fitness myths I hear is:
“I’d work out more if I just had more space.”
The truth?
You don’t need a dedicated home gym, expensive equipment, or a spare bedroom to build strength and improve your fitness.
Whether you’re living in a condo, an apartment, or simply working with limited space, you can get an incredibly effective workout with just a few square feet.
As a trainer, I’ve coached countless clients who started exactly where you are—with limited space, busy schedules, and a desire to simply feel stronger.
Here are my favourite tips for making small-space workouts work.
Think Quality, Not Quantity
You don’t need an hour.
You don’t need dozens of exercises.
You simply need a plan.
A focused 20–30 minute workout performed consistently will always beat a one-hour workout you only do once every few weeks.
Remember, consistency is where results come from.
Choose Exercises That Give You More Bang for Your Buck
When space is limited, focus on movements that work multiple muscle groups at once.
Some of my favourites include:
- Squats
- Reverse lunges
- Push-ups (or incline push-ups)
- Glute bridges
- Bird dogs
- Planks
- Dead bugs
- Resistance band rows
- Shoulder presses
- Romanian deadlifts with dumbbells
These exercises build strength, improve balance, and require very little room.

Create a “Workout Corner”
You don’t need an entire room. All you need is enough space for a yoga mat.
Keep a few basics nearby:
- Resistance bands
- A pair of dumbbells
- A yoga mat
- A water bottle
When your equipment is easy to access, you’re much more likely to use it.
Don’t Worry About Making Noise
If you have neighbours below you, skip the jumping exercises. Instead, focus on controlled strength movements.
You’ll still elevate your heart rate without worrying about disturbing anyone.
Your knees (and your neighbours) will probably appreciate it too!
Make the Most of Your Surroundings
One of the easiest ways to round out your fitness routine is to pair your home workouts with a daily walk.
Whether it’s around your neighbourhood, through a nearby park, or simply around the block, getting outside for even 20–30 minutes is a great way to boost your cardiovascular health, clear your mind, and increase your daily movement.
Strength at home. Cardio outside. It’s a simple combination that works.

Schedule It Like Any Other Appointment
One of the biggest reasons workouts get skipped isn’t lack of motivation—it’s lack of planning.
Instead of saying, “I’ll work out when I have time,” choose three days this week and block them in your calendar.
Treat those appointments with yourself the same way you’d treat a meeting or a doctor’s appointment.
Don’t Feel Like You Have to Figure It Out Alone
One of the biggest challenges with home workouts isn’t the exercises themselves—it’s knowing what to do, how to progress, and staying accountable.
That’s exactly why we created our Prime Personal Training Virtual Gym Membership.
Whether you’re working out from your apartment, your home, or while travelling, you’ll have structured workouts, coaching, and support to help you stay consistent, without needing to come into the studio.
You’ll know exactly what to do each workout, while still having the flexibility to exercise wherever life takes you. Plus, you’ll have me as your coach and get to be a part of our amazing online community of women just like you, cheering you on every step of the way.
Small Space. Big Results.
Your living space isn’t what’s holding you back.
You don’t need more equipment. You don’t need a bigger living room. You don’t need the “perfect” setup. You simply need a plan you can stick with.
Whether you choose to join us in the studio or train from home through our virtual program, remember this:
The best workout isn’t the one with the fanciest equipment. It’s the one you actually do.
Fitness doesn’t have to be complicated, and it certainly doesn’t require a lot of space.
